Anime/Manga You May or May not Have heard of but should checkout

Now you may have heard of some of these titles but they don't come up often when I surf the net which is why they're on my list. Also, they're not in any particular order or ranking.

# Kokkoku (Anime)

Literally means moment by moment, the Yukawa family use an ancient stone to stop time and rescue their members from goons only to realize that they've fallen for a trap. To complicate things, the realm they entered is filled with monsters who kill people who try to harm the people whose time has been stopped.

# Onihei (Anime)

Discover human nature from the perspective of Heizo, the easy-going chief of Edo's anti-robbery department, as he chases down thieves of all sorts, the vile and the honourable.

# Sidonia no Kishi (Anime)

It's one of those rare space-mecha-alien anime which always keeps you on the edge. The animation, plot, music, atmosphere, characters, mystery, everything about this Anime is lovely. Unfortunately, it's highly underrated due to the use of CGI instead of traditional animation.

# Suicide Island (Manga)

Apparently treating suicide victims is costly so Japan decides to ship repeat suiciders to an island where they can commit suicide or do whatever they want. Ironically, Sei and his group find the will to live even with the looming threat from their notorious neighbours.

# Gegege no Kitarou 2018 (Anime)

Despite being a kids' show Gegege no Kitarou has a lot to offer. It's stories and demons reflect the evils and issues faced by society at large. Despite its young audience the show does not shy from heavy issues like wars, plastic surgery, bullying, etc. Some of them hit so close to heart they'll make you cry.

# Recovery of an MMO Junkie (Anime)

Follows Morioka Moriko, a 30-year old lady, who decides to go NEET after her quitting her job and Sakura Yuta, a handsome salaryman, who meet offline and online in an MMO game, both unaware of their true identities. Oh and they both pretend to be of opposite gender online.

# Gunslinger Girl (Anime)

A few bitter-sweet snippets from the lives of little girls turned cyborg assassins and their mentors they are brainwashed to love like an 'onii-chan'. It's better than it sounds.

# 11 Eyes(Anime & Manga)

Years after his sister's mysterious suicide, Satsuki Kakeru was going through life with support from his closest friend Minase Yuka till one fine day they find themselves in the world of Red Night where monsters and Black Knights want to destroy them and others like them. The anime and manga take different routes, the anime has good fights and soundtrack but the manga has the better plot and character development in my opinion.

# Gugure! Kokkuri-san(Anime)

A comedy series which follows Kohina a doll girl, Kokkuri her guardian fox spirit, Inugami her stalker dog spirit and Shiguraki a NEET tanuki spirit. The series pokes fun at various supernatural and sci-fi tropes while developing a bond between the four main characters which makes you go "KAWAIIII!!!" and has a very touching end.

# Humanity Has Declined(Anime)

Set in an era where humanity is on the verge of extinction, while a new human race called fairies emerge. This series follows Watashi and her surreal adventure with the fairies while the plot parodies many aspects of the modern-day society that would lead to its decline.

# M3 Dark Metal(Anime)

This supernatural mecha series starts off slow but once it picks pace it engrosses you into the psychology of the teenagers chosen to defeat the Corpse and destroy the lightless realm that's encroaching upon Japan.

# School Days(Anime & Manga)

Three high school kids met and the most messed up love story in the world was created. School Days starts off sweet and all but things get messed after Makoto starts sleeping around thus ruining every high school romance series in existence... in a good way. The Anime's pessimistic take on high school romance is unique. Its characters are complex and it gives thought to the consequences of unprotected sex. The Manga is just as good with an interesting twist.

# Arisa(Manga)

When Arisa goes into a coma after an attempted suicide, her twin sister Tsubasa tries to uncover the reason by disguising herself as Arisa and attending her school getting involved in the mystery of 'the King'. It may seem girly but this psycho-thriller has an intense plot with a psycho as good as Light Yagami.

# Sora no Manimani (Anime)

Oyagi returns to his hometown after seven years to start high school where he is reunited with Mihoshi who pesters him into joining the astronomy club.

# Murder Princess

A mercenary and a princess exchange bodies after a near-death experience due to mysterious reasons. What follows is a badass katana-wielding princess who slices anyone and anything that threatens her country.

On a ship to Japan, a young man meets a young woman who claims to have memories dating all the way back from the first living cell to present. This leads to a long and interesting tale with an interesting twist.

# Concrete Revelutio (Anime)

This anime takes place in a world where Superhumans, aliens, mutants and all those exist along with side normal humans, just not in harmony. The anime follows a non-linear storytelling format and a unique animation style. It analyses various aspects and scenarios of a world filled with superhumans with moments both dark and light.

# Serial Experiments Lain (Anime)

Ever wondered what would happen if the internet started hacking its way into the real world? You might have seen that in Johnny Depp's Transcendence but this anime-inspired the movie and did a better job by exploring different possibilities and angles through Lain.

# Change 123 (Manga)

Hideo is your average otaku who stumbles upon Motoko, a girl with three split personalities each skilled in martial arts. What follows is hilarity, action and love. What's more? Female martial artists make up the upper tier of fighters with only the girl's three fathers matching up.

# Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (Anime)

Mirai and Yuuki find themselves in middle of an earthquake that decimates Tokyo, they must now return home with help from a single mother named Mira. It takes time to warm up to Mirai due to her angsty attitude but her character goes through an impressive development in the middle of this tear-jerking series.

# Tales Of Zestiria The X (Anime)

Made by Ufotable which made Fate Stay/Night Unlimited Bladeworks and Fate Zero, it's got a breathtaking animation and fight scenes. Based on a video game, this series revolves around Sorey and his quest to build a world where the Seraphim and Humans co-exist and bring peace to the Era of Calamity as the new Shepherd.

# Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They? (Anime)

As the title suggests, it's about three problem teenagers with special powers who are brought to an alternate universe to join a community to play games with other communities while betting their gifts.

# Code: Breaker (Manga)

# Zetsuen no Tempest: The Civilization Blaster (Anime)

# Fooly Cooly (Anime)

It's one of those anime that you have no idea why you're watching but you watch anyway hoping it'll start making sense by the end. This anime is filled with metaphors of life, portals inside the head, flying guitars, giant irons, alien conspiracy and all the weird stuff and still keeps you engrossed with its funky animation and rock music.

# Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning (Anime)

If you love detective stories but hate long-running series Spiral is your cup of tea (or coffee if you prefer that). Year prior to the plot a high school student, Ayumi Narumi's brother disappeared mysteriously after declaring that he would solve the mystery of the blade children. At the beginning of the plot, Ayumi finds himself involved in this mystery as the blade children seem to expect something from him yet they don't trust him.

# Gokusen (Anime)

A high school drama based around Yamaguchi Kumiko who leads a double life as a teacher and the heiress to a Yakuza clan. She has to keep her Yakuza side a secret from the school to keep her dream job which is rather ironic considering that the school imeant for delinquent students.

# Ayashi no Ceres (Anime)

The tale of the fisherman and the celestial maiden is the well-known world over in varying versions. This Anime gives the tale a really dark and depressing version. Starts off with fraternal twins Aya and Aki Mikage going to the Mikage mansion to celebrate their sixteenth birthday but after a strange incident, their grandfather tries to kill Aya for being a reincarnation of the celestial maiden.

# DNA(Manga)
